Message From the Chairperson

Welcome to the Department of Kinesiology.  Our academic programs are committed to providing students with an understanding of the development, interpretation, application, and dissemination of knowledge that relates physical activity to human well-being. A basic assumption underlying the teaching, research, and service functions of the Department is that human well-being can be enhanced by an integrated approach to meeting the biological, psychological, and social needs of individuals.

The Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degree programs with lines of specialization available at the degree level.  Kinesiology majors gain knowledge in the anatomical, biochemical, physiological, psychological, sociological, and developmental aspects of physical activity and how it relates to human well-being.

The Department, housed in the College of Education, maintains continuous professional interaction with other units in the College and with academic disciplines such as anthropology, engineering, psychology, sociology, nutrition, physiology, and sports medicine through its research and service programs.

Professor Deborah L. Feltz, Chairperson
