Department of Kinesiology Celebrates
100 years at M.S.U. (1899-1999)

This is a very exciting year for the department of Kinesiology at Michigan State University. The countdown to the beginning of our centennial year is underway with several events scheduled to help in the celebration, including:

bulletJanuary 13 Celebration Kickoff at the IM Circle Building
bulletMay 7-8 Spring Commencement of the Centennial Graduates
bulletMay 22 Scholarly Symposium: "Reflections on Research in Kinesiology at MSU"
bulletMay 23-26 Conference: "Youth Sports into the 21st Century"
bulletOctober 2 Homecoming Game, Tailgate and Banquet (Go State)
bulletDecember 10-11 Fall Commencement of the Centennial Graduates

Mark these dates on your calendar now
so you won’t miss any of our festivities!

Did you notice the new department Logo? Almost 100 students, faculty, and staff voted and are eligible for a drawing for a free T-shirt with the new logo printed on it. Look for the logo on many souvenir items this year (T-shirts, banners, mugs, etc.) which will be available for purchase at events throughout the year.

Do you have any items of historical importance to our Department? Check your picture albums and cabinets for any records of our history. If you find something fun and interesting (pictures, artifacts, or memorabilia) please consider sending them to Jan Davenport, the Centennial Committee Secretary, in the Department of Kinesiology Office in room 138 IM Circle. Be sure to label each item with names, dates, etc., and include your name and address so we can return them to you after the celebration is over.

We also need your help! Although we have wonderful activities planned, we still need some assistance in planning and financing the events. If you would like to offer help in planning, please contact Lynn Forsblom, the Centennial Committee Chairperson at (517) 353-7158 or forsblom@pilot.msu.edu. If you would like to help finance our activities, you may contact Kate Brown at (517) 432-1983 or brownka2@pilot.msu.edu, or you may send a donation directly to:
