Master's Thesis Research
Course Description
Master's degree students are
required to complete a "capstone" experience as part of their degree
programs. Master's Thesis Research is one of four options (thesis, project,
internship, courses only + certifying exam). Students who elect the thesis
option conduct original research that addresses a significant problem in the
field. To satisfy KIN degree requirements, the student must successfully
propose, implement, and defend the thesis research project according to MSU
policies as posted on the Graduate School
web site. Thesis students should also consult the
Guidelines
on Student/Faculty Collaboration in Research.
Recommendations
 |
It is recommended that the student complete KIN 871 -
Research Methods in Kinesiology as well as one or more courses in
statistical methods prior to beginning the thesis research project.
|
 |
Students are reminded that they must be registered in an MSU
course in the semester of graduation; therefore, it is prudent to "save" at
least one KIN 899 credit for the semester of graduation.

Enrollment
 | Discuss the proposed research project with your advisor and guidance
committee and secure their
agreement to supervise your work. |
 | If your advisor is not the most appropriate person to mentor you on
the thesis research project, you may select a different person as thesis
director. This should be a mutual decision involving your advisor, the
thesis director, and the student. |
 | Complete the
Application to Enroll in Variable-Credit Courses form. Completion
of this form is especially important if your thesis director is not the
same person as your advisor. |
