United States Olympic Committee

Purpose/Mission

The USOC is the custodian of the Olympic movement in the United States. As such, the USOC is responsible for providing support to sports that are contested in the Olympic and/or Pan American Games.

The USOC operates training centers in Colorado Springs (CO), Lake Placid (NY), and Chula Vista (CA). Each campus includes state-of-the-art training facilities, athlete dormitories, sports medicine facilities, and sports science resources.

The USOC approves the USA trial sites for the selection of Olympic and Pan American Games teams. The USOC is also responsible for athlete, coach, and staff selection to Olympic and Pan American teams.

The USOC facilitates bids by U.S. cities to host the winter or summer Olympic Games or Pan American Games. When multiple cities bid to host the same Games, the USOC selects one city as the USA's nomination to host the Games.
