United States Olympic Committee
Purpose/Mission
 |
The USOC is the custodian of the
Olympic movement in the United States. As such, the USOC is responsible
for providing support to sports that are contested in the Olympic and/or
Pan American Games. |
 |
The USOC operates training centers in
Colorado Springs (CO), Lake Placid (NY), and Chula Vista (CA). Each
campus includes state-of-the-art training facilities, athlete
dormitories, sports medicine facilities, and sports science resources.
|
 |
The USOC approves the USA trial sites for the
selection of Olympic and
Pan American Games teams.
The USOC is also responsible for athlete, coach, and staff selection to
Olympic and Pan American teams. |
 |
The USOC facilitates bids
by U.S. cities to host the winter or summer
Olympic Games or Pan American Games. When multiple
cities bid to host the same Games, the USOC selects one city as the
USA's nomination to host the Games. |
