Professional Organizations and Resources with Information about Assistive Technology

  • (CARET) Center for Applied Research in Educational Technology

    CARET attempts to bridge the research-to-practice gap by offering research-based answers to questions about technology. On this site, you can browse questions and answers, read CARET reviews of articles and their implications, and creating a profile to receive updated information about topics of interest. The site also contains links to a variety of online sources with information about education and technology.

  • ISTE: International Society for Technology in Education

    A nonprofit professional organization dedicated to promoting appropriate uses of information technology to support and improve learning, teaching, and administration in K–12 education and teacher education

  • Learning Disabilities OnLine: LD Indepth: Technology

    Information about new developments in technology, and practical insights into the promise and realities of making technology work for people with learning disabilities

  • MATR: Michigan Assistive Technology Resource

    Provides information services, support materials, technical assistance, and training to local and intermediate school districts in Michigan to increase their capacity to address the needs of students with disabilities for assistive technology.   • NATRI: National Assistive Technology Research Institute

    Conducts assistive technology research, translates theory and research into AT practice, and provides resources for improving the delivery of AT services

  • NCTI: National Center for Technology Innovation

    NCTI seeks to be a national catalyst for innovation in technology for children with disabilities. The goal of this center is to accelerate the pace of technology research and development by facilitating networking opportunities among technology innovators, in states and localities, across the country.” This site includes I Can Soar, a 26- minute video telling stories of 4 students with disabilities and how AT has been effectively integrated into their homes, lives, and communities. It is available for download. The site also offers discussion groups, newsletter; searchable database of people, projects, and resources related to AT; and information about foundation funding. Registration is free.

  • RESNA: Rehabilitation Engineering Society of North America

    Provides assistance to the AT Act Grantees to assist them reduce barriers and increase access to assistive technology (AT) devices and services for consumers with disabilities of all ages

  • Simon Technology Center at the Pacer Center

    Provides information about technology in the schools for parents and teachers
