Home Technology Enhanced Learning
in Special Education

Welcome

This project is supported by a Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) Grant awarded to Michigan State University.

Project Technology-Enhanced Learning in Special Education (TELSE) is designed to assist teachers in their efforts to make better use of technology for students with mild disabilities. The site contains the following information:

Resources:

  • A list of links to information about using technology for students with mild disabilities, in Michigan and throughout the world.

Modules:

  • Six instructional modules about using assistive technology to help students with disabilities acquire literacy skills and to compensate for reading difficulties. These modules are designed to be used in teacher education classes and address the following topics:
    1. Introduction: An introduction to assistive technology and mild disabilities
    2. Basic Skills Software for Improving Reading
    3. Technology Based Study Tools
    4. Text-to-Speech Devices and Programs
    5. Electronic Books
    6. Technology and Social Studies

Readings:

  • A list of our recommended readings about technology and mild disabilities.

Lesson Plans:

  • This part of the site is under construction. We plan to add a searchable database of lesson plans for using technology correlated to Michigan and state curricular standards.

Communication Tools:

  • This portion of the site is also under construction. There will be a chat room and possibly a discussion board. We plan to have a "widget" at the top of the home page that will list the number of users are online at the moment, and who is chatting.
