Stakeholders Evaluate Curriculum
In Step #6, selected
community stakeholders have an opportunity to review the reports written
by the external consultant (Step #3), task force (Step
#4), and physical education staff (Step #5), and
to offer further suggestions for curriculum revision. The rationale for
involving community members in this process is twofold, to obtain additional
suggestions for improving the physical education curriculum and to increase
public support (and possibly funding) for the physical education program.
-
Each stakeholder receives a copy of the reports
written by the external consultant (Step #3), task force
(Step #4), and physical education staff (Step
#5). Other curriculum documents (Step #2) are
retained in the responsible administrator's office and are available for review
upon request.
-
The
external consultant and the responsible administrator tabulate the responses
to the Stakeholder Survey.
-
The stakeholders meet to receive the tabulated data
and to achieve consensus about the quality of the curriculum. This meeting is
moderated by either the responsible administrator or the consultant.
-
Next, a volunteer member of the stakeholder group
(or a designated person such as the responsible administrator or consultant)
writes the stakeholder report. The report should focus on recommendations for
curriculum revision, and should include a description of the evaluation
procedures used by the stakeholders and a list of all persons who participated.
This report is subsequently disseminated to all participating stakeholders, who
review the content for accuracy and offer editorial suggestions. The opportunity
for review and edits may occur at a meeting called for that purpose (preferred),
or the process may be conducted via mail.
